Alternator
The alternator is a key component of your vehicle’s charging system. It generates electrical power and charges the battery while the engine is running. It supplies energy to essential systems like your headlights, radio, air conditioning, power windows, and ignition system.
Without a properly working alternator, your battery will drain quickly, and your vehicle could stall or fail to start.
Common Causes of Alternator Failure:
-
Worn-out bearings – Creates noise and leads to failure.
-
Faulty voltage regulator – Overcharging or undercharging the battery.
-
Damaged/broken serpentine belt – The alternator stops spinning.
-
Oil or fluid leaks – Can cause corrosion or short circuits.
-
Old age or wear – Alternators typically last 7–10 years or 100,000–150,000 km.
Symptoms of a Failing Alternator:
-
Battery warning light on the dashboard
-
Dim or flickering headlights
-
Electrical issues (e.g., power windows or radio not working)
-
Slow engine crank or clicking sound when starting
-
Dead battery, even after charging
-
Burning rubber or electrical smell
-
Whining or grinding noises from the engine area
